How to Make a Lavender Sachet

How to Make a Lavender Sachet

Lavender sachets are one of the simplest and most traditional ways to enjoy lavender. For generations, they have been tucked into drawers, closets, and bedside tables, offering a gentle fragrance and a sense of calm.

Making a lavender sachet requires very little equipment and only a small amount of time. It is a quiet, satisfying project that allows the lavender’s natural qualities to take center stage.

What You’ll Need

  • Dried lavender buds

  • A small fabric bag, muslin pouch, or square of breathable fabric

  • String, ribbon, or twine

  • Optional: dried rose petals or herbs for blending

(Cotton, linen, or muslin work best, as they allow fragrance to release naturally.)

How to Make the Sachet

  1. Prepare the lavender
Make sure your lavender buds are fully dried. Gently roll them between your fingers to release fragrance before filling the sachet.

  2. Fill the pouch
Spoon lavender buds into the fabric pouch or center of the fabric square. Do not overfill — lavender needs a little space to move.

  3. Secure the sachet
If using a pouch, pull the drawstring tight. If using fabric, gather the corners together and tie securely with string or ribbon.

  4. Gently shape
Lightly press the sachet to distribute the buds evenly.

Where to Use Lavender Sachets

  • Tucked into drawers or closets

  • Placed near bedding or pillows

  • Hung in small spaces

  • Stored with linens

Lavender sachets offer a soft, lasting fragrance without being overpowering.

Refreshing the Scent

Over time, the fragrance may soften. To refresh:

  • Gently squeeze the sachet to release the natural oils

  • Roll it lightly between your hands

Properly stored sachets can last many months.

A Note From the Farm

Lavender works best when allowed to be simple. Sachets are a reminder that the plant’s beauty and usefulness do not require complexity — just care and patience.

Storage Tip

If not in use, store sachets in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to preserve fragrance.
