Why Lavender
Lavender was not something we set out to grow with a firm plan in place. It entered our lives quietly and earned its place over time.
What first drew us to lavender was its simplicity. The plant is resilient, patient, and unassuming. It doesn’t demand constant attention, yet it responds beautifully when cared for well. There is something grounding about working with a plant that thrives when it is respected rather than rushed.
As we learned more, lavender began to reflect many of the values we hoped JW Farms would stand for. It grows best when the soil is well prepared and the conditions are right. It rewards patience, consistency, and care — qualities we believe matter not just in farming, but in life.
Lavender also offers more than beauty. Its fragrance is calming, its presence gentle. Walking through the rows invites you to slow down, breathe more deeply, and pay attention. Those moments have become some of our favorites here on the farm.
From a practical standpoint, lavender made sense for the land we share. It allows us to work thoughtfully and intentionally, focusing on quality rather than quantity. It fits our desire to grow something meaningful without forcing the land beyond what it is ready to give.
In many ways, lavender chose us as much as we chose it. It continues to teach us patience, care, and respect for the process. As JW Farms grows, lavender remains at the heart of what we do — a reminder that good things are often grown slowly.
